Somerset, Kentucky is surrounded by natural beauty, from idyllic landscapes to rolling hills, and of course, nearby Lake Cumberland. Each year, millions of people flock to south-central Kentucky with their families to spend time in and around the lake. If you’re planning on bringing the kids down to our neck of the woods this season, we’ve got plenty of recommendations to help make your vacation an unforgettable experience you’ll treasure for years to come. Here are our top three picks of family friendly things to do in Somerset, Kentucky.

Somernites Cruise

  • Distance from us: 4.4 miles
  • Hours: Every 4th Saturday from 12-6pm

From April to October on the 4th saturday of the month, historic Somerset transforms into one of the state’s largest parades for classic automobiles. Hundreds upon hundreds of classics, customs, and muscle cars gather together to cruise around town and show off. Starting at noon, you and family can come and admire cars, talk to other enthusiasts, and browse through the event’s unique vendors.

Towards the end of the day, the show vehicles exit the downtown area in a massive parade and head towards US 27. The six lane highway that cuts through the center of town is shut down so more than 1000 unique cars can cruise around for everyone to see. The Somernites Cruise is a free event designed to bring the community together and create an exciting, family friendly atmosphere.
